A Trusted Protector

”He will be called… Everlasting Father…” Isaiah 9:6d

The impact of a father on the life of his child can never be overstated. A father is the first authority figure a child relates to, and his role is to represent our Father in heaven. But what happens if he becomes an abusive, apathetic, or absentee father? How can a child have good understanding or a clear picture of the loving Father depicted in the Bible? The answer is, it is difficult. Most grow up either ignoring God or despising Him. This was something God wanted to overturn when He promised through Isaiah that this Son to be born would actually represent and be our everlasting Father - One that we can trust (lean on and live for) the rest of eternity.

”How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!And that is what we are!” I John 3:1

The fact that many people have had poor fathers, to put it mildly, is something God wants to change. He is offering His providing and protective nature to us for the rest of our lives (an Eternal Father). This is what Isaiah saw for our future. A new Father who was coming to bring His everlasting care. Because of Jesus, we never need to fear again.

…WHO RULES BY PEACE.

”He will be called …Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6g

Most of the rulers (kings) Isaiah had known were men who furthered their agendas. This typically meant the acquisition of more land and resources (war). What good is a king if he doesn’t advance the economy? But this new King, being God Himself, already owns everything, so to acquire more is unnecessary. This places the new Prince in a position to advance peace. His plan is to repair and restore humanity, not reign in terror for His own ends.

”Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27

The beauty of the reign of peace to come through Jesus is it not only extends to the world, but to us personally. Because He is our Prince of Peace, we can trust His peace to cover us all our days, bringing us everlasting rest.
